Baltin: Do you feel like given the fact that as a culture we seem to have gotten backwards in so many ways that it becomes even more important for artists to then lead the way and become more vocal going the opposite route?

I was a skeptic, but this album blew me away, some covers took my breath away in the best sense of the word. And I think there was a point in time on my journey over the last 14 years where I wasn't totally sure. There’s nothing really wrong with that approach, which gives us safe-but-solid versions of Lana Del Rey’s “West Coast” and Pink’s “My Attic,” two songs where he avoids diverging much from the originals. And I love that everyone can turn on the Grammys and see something of themselves reflected on the screen. While I don't think the more measured, electro-pop take on this disco hit works as well for the gleeful verses, I do enjoy how hard it hits on the choruses. Lambert first teased the album title and it’s content of eleven cover songs on This Morning on December 2, 2022. Another standout is Duran Duran’s ‘Ordinary World ‘is spine-tinglingly good and Adam’s capability to effortlessly combine his endearing vulnerability with powerhouse vocals which his trademark falsetto. also saw Lambert join Queen for a sold-out European tour including ten shows at London’s The 02 Arena.

The gravitas towards all things dramatic is ever present throughout his latest offering ‘High Drama’ – an album of bold reimagined tracks personally curated by the singer himself. A showman with stellar performance skills, there are few performers with a vocal range like Adam Lambert and it’s clear he knows his instrument well and has expertly mastered the tracks on ‘High Drama’ to really make them his own and has once again showcased his astonishing vocal prowess with this energetic, vivid and mesmerising collection of songs. You hear people criticize it, likely not part of the community saying things like, "Why does it have to be all about that? The actor and playwright Noël Coward wrote the song some 90 years ago about unrequited gay love and the conventions of his time. More than 15 years ago, David Archuleta became a national celebrity thanks to his time on American Idol.

Yet, what Lambert's adventures with Queen may have revealed to him is that he's an even better fit on delicate baroque pop like "Killer Queen" - the kinds of songs he hasn't traditionally had the patience or audience to support. Compare that with Lambert’s twist on SIA’s “Chandelier,” which is a little closer to the original but takes things in a more alternative post-grunge direction. Currently, Lambert is working on writing a musical, which will feature original songs from a stellar lineup of collaborators.
