At the time of creating, AccessArt checked all links to ensure content is appropriate for teachers to access. After years of successfully teaching this project in my own studio classroom and in primary schools, I have decided to make this tutorial available as Eric Carle’s books are still very popular with teachers to engage young children in reading and art.

Captioned, signed "Eric Carle" and inscribed to a young fan "For Matt with my very best wishes," lower margin. Carle then took a piece of red tissue paper for the head and placed the drawing on top of the piece of tissue paper. The works in this exhibition focus on the artist’s dreamy nighttime scenes and the stories they tell about twinkling stars, blinking fireflies, and the gently smiling moon.Though reprinted thousands of times and ultimately selling tens of millions of copies, first editions of The Very Hungry Caterpillar are rare in the dust-jacket in good condition. My grandchildren also LOVE his beautiful books, which are delightful visually and also written perfectly for their young imaginations! The Museum's stated goal is to foster connections between visual and verbal literacy and to provide visitors of all ages and backgrounds with the opportunity to explore their own creativity and the confidence to appreciate and enjoy art of every kind.

Y., and his childhood in wartime Germany, this autobiography gives readers a glimpse at what shaped the artist's life, including essays on his work by his editors, a speech for the Library of Congress, and more than sixty full-color illustrations. When the paper has dried separate the painted paper from the newspaper, insert a flat hand between the two pieces of paper and gently separate them. First step is to paint a colour all over using the big paint brushes, then while the paint is still wet scratch textures using the plastic tools made of milk bottles, cardboard, plastic forks or simple using erasers.

Carle cut paper into the shapes he wanted after he drew a character, like his famous hungry caterpillar. Or I put paint on a piece of carpet, sponge, or burlap and then use that like a stamp on my tissue papers to create different textures. His illustrations influenced the industry in their use of design elements, such as holes in the pages of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, or the sound mechanisms in The Very Quiet Cricket. Collage art is created by cutting different pieces of paper into different shapes and creating a picture out of it. He'd put the acrylic paint with sponges or brushes onto the tissue paper, creating abstract pieces of art that he then arranged by color in flat drawers.

If students have not been introduced to the books and art of Eric Carle, read The Very Hungry Caterpillar or watch the animated video on YouTube.
