It's true that most of these surfaces would work with a normal laser mouse, but it's good to have peace of mind for the occasional awkward tray table, countertop, or dreaded glass table. Of course I could and will just use Bluetooth for now, because then I won’t have to plug / unplug the receiver all the time or even keep with me… But I’m not sure if I want to keep Bluetooth always on on my laptop especially when I’m out and about. com is a leading authority on technology, delivering lab-based, independent reviews of the latest products and services. com and PC Magazine are among the federally registered trademarks of Ziff Davis and may not be used by third parties without explicit permission. A power switch on the bottom toggles the mouse on or off, and a small circular button allows you to jump between up to three paired devices.

The Darkfield sensor is still as excellent as ever, providing very accurate tracking even on a problematic surface such as a transparent glass table. I’ve used button mappers before and this is one of the best - you can even set different layouts in separate applications! Tracks virtually anywhereDarkfield™ laser tracking gives you flawless control on virtually any surface, including glass and high-gloss surfaces. I have been very pleased with the Logitech MX Anywhere 2 Mouse, and if you are someone who travels, and wants to use a mouse to supplement a trackpad on a notebook, this mouse is likely the travel mouse to beat. There’s no way to do an accurate battery life test on this like we do with notebooks and smartphones, but so far I’ve charged the mouse when I first purchased it in October. The software is simple to use, and the layout is much better than older Logitech software which I found was cluttered.

The left side has forward and back buttons just above the thumb rest, while the scroll wheel itself can also be pushed left or right for a variety of uses. The wheel also rocks left and right for horizontal scrolling but I found it more useful to set these as buttons also. Additionally, it has a unifying receiver, which connects other devices such as a keyboard, empowering multi-device workflow. There are no battery door and/or dongle storage slot, so the build seems to be more solid than the original M905. For such a small mouse, the ergonomics are pretty good, with a nice wide shape and contoured sides for your fingers to rest on.

The basic shape and button location has not changed, and it keeps the excellent Logitech scroll wheel which allows you to switch between a traditional stepped scrolling or an almost frictionless HyperScroll which lets you blast through spreadsheets or web pages with one flick of the finger. In most cases you probably can just leave it on the laptop you carry around and it’ll be fine because it is so small.
